Review: Westonbirt Restaurant
At last, a lovely Spring Sunday, so TGtB travelled to Westonbirt Arboretum to sample the food at the recently relaunched Westonbirt Restaurant under the new management of CALCOT KITCHENS.
What a pleasant surprise it was - a very varied menu including soups, baguettes, sandwiches, savoury snacks, hearty homemade meals and a delicious selection of cakes and pastries.
The food is prepared and cooked onsite and the fresh bread is a variety of Hobbs House Bakery. There is also a healthy and freshly prepared children`s menu.
Now to the enticing part! Two of our party of four had the roast pork which was tasty and succulent with superb crunchy crackling.
This was served with roast potatoes (nice and crunchy), stuffing, apple sauce and seasonal vegetables - the plate was presented on a platter with the vegetables and apple sauce in separate dishes (a nice touch).
The other two members of our party had the hamburger which was thick, juicy and meaty and as one of the hamburger diners said "with a proper, tasty bun which makes all the difference". Chips, pickled gherkin and salad accompanied the burger.
After all that indulgence we could not resist the homemade cakes - our selection being carrot cake and apple cake.
The food was delicious and well presented. The staff were delightful - friendly and courteous. We would strongly recommend this venue when you are visiting Westonbirt Arboretum.
As for us at TGtB - there was only one thing for it - a long, beautiful walk around the beautiful Arboretum to work off a few of those calories.
