Andrew Pozzi fails to qualify for 110m hurdle final

Andrew Pozzi's Olympics ended in the early hours of Wednesday morning as he was unable to reach the final of the 110m hurdles.

Pozzi finished fifth from eight in his heat which means he progressed no further than the semi-final stage, which is one round further than he managed at the London Olympics four years ago.

In the first heat, Pozzi hit the first two barriers which led to him losing his rhythm and falling behind the pecking order.

After the race, Pozzi's dejection was clear to see as he told the BBC: "It's just abysmal, there's no words to describe it really, just absoloutely awful.

"Straight from the blocks I started hammering the first couple of hurdles , for what reason I can't really describe and I can't really put my finger on it, I just felt really out of sorts, but this isn't the place for it to happen so I'm just (feeling) awful."

He added: "I don't quite understand it. All season I've been quite consistent and I've ran so much quicker than that and I don't know how to explain it but it's terrible viewing, I can only apologise."
