13 PR Tips

redheadPR's Sara Tye 13 brings us 13 easy-to-implement PR tips for 2013.

1. New Year, New Attitude

2012 might have been a tough year for many, but don’t let that stop you from aiming high; be inspired by the New Year, and renew your targets for a high standard PR campaign.

2. Think Big, Act Small

Being a Small/Medium size business or entrepreneur doesn’t mean you have to think like one. A key ethos here at redheadPR is being a “Glocal” company, expanding our sights to national and global audiences too, if it’s relevant.

3. Plan, plan, plan, and then Plan Some More
I don’t think it’s possible to stress enough how important this is in PR. Plans will safeguard you from a lot of problems and stress, so do yourself a favour and make a comprehensive blueprint for 2013.

4. Save Here, Spend There.
Every pound you save on overhead costs means another pound profit, another pound you can funnel back into the business – investment in the correct marketing and communications is vital for growth.

5. Tech-up and Web-up
The majority of businesses have now broadened their company to reach online audiences, but if you’re still one of the companies that hasn’t made that switch, don’t get left behind. And if you don’t have a company website, believe me, you’re behind!

6. Lead by Example

Yes, it’s still one of the time-old roads to success. Lead with direction and by example to inspire those around you: it’s about getting up and out, attending events, networking and belting out your company’s presence.

7. Maintain your Company Profile

You may be one of the most impressive and original creatives in your industry, but other people, particularly your target audiences and clients, need to see this too. Keep your Company Profile looking as visionary as you feel.

8. Keep your Eyes Open

Monitoring hot topics is an absolute must in PR. Let one trend slip by, and you miss the opportunity to get yourself involved and connected with new opportunities.

9. Great Content, Great Connections

The press are inundated with releases every day: don’t let copy with mistakes, small or big, fall into their hands. This is key to building solid relationships with journalists, based on their image of you as a reliable and professional source.

10. Tweets, Posts, Updates... you Know the Drill

2012 has been a massive year for the development of social media, and there’s no doubt that 2013 will continue this trend. Stay up-to-date with the latest social media websites and tools to keep that hub of social interactions buzzing.

11. SEO

When people use search engines to find the services you offer, your company needs to make it onto that first search page to get maximum exposure: make sure the content on your website contains all the relevant key words to achieve this.

12. Directories

Unfortunately, businesses don’t just get themselves listed on local and relevant trade directories by themselves: ensure you feed directories with contact information, and let them know if it changes!

13. If all else fails...
