Guyers Creates Corporate Buzz

A corporate team building day with a difference took place at Guyers House Hotel on Friday 14th of August when eight senior executives from Nationwide Building Society swapped their office attire for bee suits and spent the day learning about bee keeping.

Hives containing thousands of bees were placed in the hotel’s garden and participants were invited to get up close and personal with the bees, learning how to remove a frame of bees and honey from the hive and the art of safely holding bees in their hands and close to their faces.

The brainchild behind using bees as part of a corporate team building day is Richard Rickitt who is a seasoned beekeeper and runs Corsham based A to Bee he said “Bees are tremendously important to our natural environment and while many people appreciate their value few understand the parallels between a honeybee colony and the way human based organisations can be managed.  Also, most people never have the opportunity to get this close to a live bee hive.  It a concept that has generated a lot of interest, nervousness and excitement but nevertheless it’s one that is proving to work well as an interesting corporate team building day.”

Barnaby Davis of Nationwide Building Society said “'As well as it being a really unique and interesting experience getting really close to bee's in their hive environment, actually learning about the cross over between bees and corporate life in terms of leadership, communication, work ethic and organisational skills was incredibly relevant!”
