Local Entrepreneur Celebrates 25 Years in Business

Chippenham born John Boatman is celebrating his twenty-fifth year working in the independent financial advice sector.

The owner of Boatman Financial Ltd has spent his entire career in the South West providing independentfinancial advice to individuals and local businesses.

“My father ran his own accountancy business for many years in Chippenham and then Tetbury.  I could see the pleasure he got from helping people and advising their companies.

“I wanted to follow in his footsteps and have my own business.  I set off on my own financial services career path in 1993 working within a Chippenham based independent financial adviser.  After an initial period of training and getting to know the industry, I eventually qualified in 1997 and then in 2002 set up my own independent financial advice business based in Tetbury.”

In 2005 John decided to merge his business with another financial adviser firm back in Chippenham.  At one point the newly formed company had seven advisers working together and provided a range of financial services.  In 2011 the directors amicably went their own ways and John formed Boatman Financial.

For the last seven years John has continued working with his clients and is known for providing professional, relatable and constructive independent financial advice.

He explains: “Working with our clients on an individual basis helps them to understand what shouldn’t be complicated within financialservices. There is still a misconception you need to be wealthy to see a financial adviserwhen nothing could be further from the truth.

“The financial industry can be elitist. That isn’t what I am about. I get on well with people and enjoy taking the time to explain pensions, life assurance, savings and investments.”

Today the company client profile ranges from twenty-somethings to those in their eighties living across the south of England.

“We focus on working with our clients to better their financial futures.  The first meeting is at our expense and if we don’t think our services are needed we will explain that during the initial discussions.

“We enjoy working with our clients and providing an on-going review of the services we provide. Personal and financial circumstances change over time and this is why we like to offer an optional review service – we think this is important.”

Celebrating his twenty-fifth anniversary in financial services this month, John is committed to focusing on individuals and local businesses mainly within the Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bath and Bristol areas.

John and his wife Emma also run their associated company Boatman Admin Services offering virtual admin services, social media management along with event organisation.  Boatman Admin Services was recently selected for the 2018 Small Biz 100 – a national campaign to highlight successful local businesses in the run up to Small Business Saturday which will be celebrated on Saturday December 1.

Emma said: “We’re thrilled to be recognised at a national level in this way, it validates our commitment to growth and customer service. We are really looking forward to meeting some of the other Small Biz 100 businesses during a ceremony in London on Thursday September 13”.
