Let's Talk
Lucas and Isaac Talbot Light Up Clarks Village
Six year old Lucas Talbot, who suffers with a congenital heart defect, delighted 3,500 shoppers at Clarks Village when he switched on the Christmas lights with his twin brother Isaac and Ed, Troy & Paulina from Heart Breakfast to herald the start of the festive season.
A patient at the Children’s Unit of Bristol Royal Infirmary, Lucas was chosen for the honour and brought to the event by Martha Care, the Clarks Village Charity of the Year. In September Lucas was a winner of the Child of Courage Award at the Pride of Somerset Awards 2015.
Speaking about the event, Maggie Mickshik, founder of Martha Care said “Lucas really is an inspiration. As a charity that supports families with sick children in the South West, we are often humbled to see the resilience that children show when facing their own challenges. Lucas, along with his brother Isaac, is a delight, and it was wonderful to see them both turning on the lights with such enthusiasm and indeed professionalism.
“We were thrilled to see so many people at the event, and also to see the generosity shown by Clarks Village shoppers who gave donations to the charity. My thanks go to the Rotary Club of Glastonbury and Street for supporting our volunteers and, as the end of the year approaches, Martha Care would like to show its appreciation to Clarks Village for a wonderful year of support.”
Chris Davis, Retail manager at Clarks Village added “The lights switch on was a huge success with lots of happy shoppers enjoying themselves. To have Lucas and Isaac switch on the lights was the icing on the cake.
“It has been a privilege to have Martha Care as our Charity of the Year and this was a real highlight for both Clarks Village and the charity. We wish both Martha Care and young Lucas all the very best and will watch progress going forward.”
The Clarks Village lights switch on took place Thursday 12th November and also included free festive treats for the whole family, Christmas carols and traditional bands, a visit from Father Christmas, late night shopping until 9pm, and extra discounts available in many of the 90 shops.
