Make the Most of the Difficult Winter Months
Winding down for Christmas?
The winter months can be tough for business.
Unless you're in the hospitality industry things can tend to slow down for business owners over the Christmas period. Productivity and staff attendance drops whether through annual leave, seasonal flu or hangovers from the Christmas party!
The temptation might be to follow suit, get your head down and enjoy the quiet period - who could blame you?!
Actually, this is your chance to plan for the year ahead and your chance to further engage your workforce to help get the most out of them.
Here's some tips
1. Develop People
Look to implement a training plan for your staff - their personal development is your business' development - as the old adage goes, it's better to train staff and watch them leave than not train them and watch them stay!
2. Build teams
Team building exercises can be a great way for your staff to get to know their colleagues better. It might seem like a cost but people that know and like each other work harder for each other.
3. Ask for feedback
Encourage feedback from your staff. Regular appraisals and 121s give them the opportunity to raise concerns and even suggest new ideas that could take the business forward. It might even be worth incentivising staff by offering rewards for ideas that generate sales.
