TGt Meets IWD Special...Alison Stubbs, Events & Marketing Manager at Bath BID
It's International Women's Day, Friday 8th March and we've had the pleasure of interviewing Alison Stubbs, the events and marketing manager at Bath BID...
Tell us a bit about yourself...
My name is Alison, I work for the Bath BID as the Events/Marketing Manager. It is my job to share our stories and promote all the businesses we work with in the city centre.
Tell us about your business...
The Bath BID is an independent not-for-profit, business-led initiative working to create the environment for businesses in Bath to succeed.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being creative and making things. My favourite thing is when I get to sit down and make something completely new for example a logo. I then also love seeing people’s reactions to it and then get a little overwhelmed when I realise that it will be used across the city.
What Is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement was having an advert that I made on the back of a bus. I never thought that I would have had the career I have and so never even imagined that one day I would design something that would go on a bus. In the mornings it is a little surreal to get on the bus that has my advert on the back of it!
This year’s IWD theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ – what does this mean to you?
We have come a long way when it comes to inclusion. But there is still a long way to go to make sure that everyone feels included and not judged by others. In the business world, there is still a lack of representation not just when it comes to gender. Hopefully, this theme will shed light on the areas that have not progressed as far as others.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career?
The biggest challenges I have faced in my career are closed-minded people. I find it hard to work collaboratively with people who are not willing to listen to other opinions.
How do you balance your business and personal life?
Work/Life Balance is something that I struggle with as I can be a bit of a workaholic at times! I try to make sure that when I am at home, I try to stay away from my work phone and my work laptop and leave them in another room. I have not mastered truly switching off from everything as I still find myself scrolling on my personal phone, but I find that having separate devices helps a lot with balancing things.
Which women inspire you the most?
I find hard-working women who can juggle life and work incredibly inspiring, for example, Bath BID’s CEO, Allison Herbert. I find Allison an incredibly inspiring person for me. She has managed to juggle a busy family life with her jobs and still is a powerhouse of creativity and free-thinking. I wish that one day I could be at least a little bit as informed, accomplished, and knowledgeable as she is.
