We have been chatting with Ben White, Sales Director of Marshfield Bakery; the home of delightfully moreish baked goods.

Where is home and why?
I was brought up in Marshfield but currently live on Grosvenor Place in Bath. Great location for getting into and out of Bath. Easy commute to the bakery.

What do you think attracts business people to Bath?
Certainly not the parking!! I think the people are great and the small size of the city makes it accessible. Also I think the fact that it is a prestigious city helps a great deal.

Fun, ambitious, treats

What advice would you give anyone looking to do the same?
Be prepared to work hard. Very hard for little return in the early years. Also to think outside the box a little in terms of the next trends.

If you were to design the perfect team of 4 people to help you run your company, what characteristics would those four people have?
Hard working, conscientious, sense of fun, good banter.

How do you like to spend your time off?
With my girlfriend. With my girls. Sport (especially cricket and I must be one of the only Gloucester fans living in Bath!), eating out. Some travel when allowed.

What is the single most critical talent you possess in your role as a business owner?
Self-motivated management but with the ability to be driven by my great team.

Your 2pm meeting has been cancelled, meaning you now have a two-hour lunch break. What do you do?What is a lunch break?

What has been your biggest achievement to date?
Winning, growing, keeping and growing again our largest customer.
