Cafe Walcot Opens Its Doors

We took an early look around the newly opened Cafe walcot

This café restaurant sits in the loft space of Walcot House Bath. The café is their daytime offering and can be accessed off Old Orchard Street to the left-hand side of the club on artisan Walcot Street

A New York style apartment loft space it is with all the cool details associated with the Walcot House style, but flooded with light, comfy corners and easy chairs plus keep an ear out for super cool tunes.

The café is sure to fast become a freelancer’s go-to, perfect for weekday catch-ups, or out of office meetings. We also predict many a slow weekend will be spent here enjoying a quiet read of the weekend broadsheets or grabbing sustenance ahead of a day of shopping. Café Walcot offers a spacious environment with comfortable furnishings and with the all-important superfast WIFI connection.

As for the foodie offering, there’s two menu’s to choose from, a café menu and a beefed up lunch version.

Think light bites, breakfast style eats and an all-day brunch for the café menu; homemade porridge, sourdough toast with a variety of options including the must have smashed avocado features alongside a full English, ham hock hash and bacon baps. There are plenty of vegan and gluten free choices too to keep those on restricted diets happy.

The more substantial lunch menu is served from 12 til 4. It includes a Chefs specials with a tart of the day and currently includes rare roast beef with celeriac slaw, pork belly with apple sauce and a bowl of slow cooked lamb shoulder, cavolo nero with salsa verde. All served with a crusty Bertinet roll.

We chose an avocado breakfast, smashed with poached eggs, swapping bacon for tomatoes and a green tea. The tomatoes were cooked salsa style offering a wonderful depth of flavour. Fluffy eggs, perfect ripeness to the avo, sourdough as only Bertinet does it. Everything was spot on. Delicious.

The service was friendly, personable and slick, especially impressive given they’d hardly been open a day and which bodes well for those of you grabbing breakfast before work of a morning; they are open seven days a week from 7am, closing at 6.

Café Walcot is a much-welcomed addition to the café scene here in Bath and we think, like us, you’ll really like it. We are already to go back for more!
