Review: Sunday Lunch at the Abbey Hotel Kitchen
On a cold October day, there's nothing more heartwarming traditional Sunday Lunch, which is exactly what Abbey Hotel served up to us - and more! Read below as we review their brand new Sunday Lunch Menu in the Abbey Hotel Kitchen.
Abbey Hotel Kitchen, situated in the very heart of Bath, has recently re-launched their Sunday Lunch menu. The restaurant is well noted for its delicious food and the Sunday Lunch menu certainly lived up to expectations.
It's clear the careful skill and thought that has gone into creating the menu which is everything you would expect from a traditional Sunday Lunch menu and is extremely reasonably priced. Served from 12pm - 6pm. Offering both vegetarian options, a wonderful and nutritious children's menu and a varied complimenting wine menu.
The relaxed dining room is cleverly contemporary displaying stunning local artwork offering the perfect ambience for a cosy, relaxed, informal Sunday Lunch suitable for all and a lovely space for special occasions. There was a lovely murmur of chatter and laughter in the air as we arrived with families, couples and friends relishing their lazy Sunday time together.
We chose an enticing starter of salt and pepper squid with lime, chilli and aioli served with rocket and a tangy garlic mayo and a beautifully moorish spiced butternut squash soup with creme fraiche. Other options include ham hock terrine with red onion chutney, rocket and crisp ciabatta and Creamy garlic mushrooms served with toasted sour bread.
For the main course, there is a varied choice of a fish dish and nut roast but we opted for the traditional Roast Beef, Roast Chicken and a child's mini Roast Beef.
On arrival, the roasts were simply outstanding. They were really abundant, hearty, mouth-watering portions. We couldn't wait to tuck in.
The generous serving of sumptuous beef was cooked to perfection and simply melted in the mouth. The chicken was substantial, flavoursome, and succulent. Served with an ENORMOUS Yorkshire pudding accompanied by crispy, fluffy golden roasties, divine homemade stuffing of sausage meat, sage and onion, sweet seasoned red cabbage, creamy rich cauliflower cheese, seasonal roast vegetables of carrots and parsnips cooked to perfection, luscious classic pigs in blankets all drizzled with a rich well-seasoned gravy.
The child's portion is a smaller replica of the adult size and was extremely gratifying and was devoured by our daughter.
The dessert selection of chocolate brownie served with chocolate sauce with clotted cream ice cream, strawberry cheesecake Eton mess with strawberries, meringue and raspberry sorbet , sticky toffee pudding and ice cream sorbet all looked heavenly appealing but after our cheeky extra helping of Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets we were delightfully content.
It's difficult to replicate the taste and feeling of a “homemade” traditional Sunday lunch but The Abbey Hotel Kitchen has excelled, a visit here is necessary and I can guarantee you will be returning ... what a treat!
