Snapped: The Great Bath Bake Sale
The grand doors of Bath Abbey opened to the city?s bakers on Saturday the 18th of October. The aisles were adorned with over 1000 cakes, bakes and sweet treats which marked the launch of the Abbey?s public fundraising appeal Footprints. The cakes were donated by local residents and organisation including Bath?s prestigious Norland College.
The Great Bath Bake sale was a huge success, with over 1000 sweet creations on display for visitors to purchase inside the beautiful Bath Abbey.
The sale was held to raise much-needed funds for its Footprint project – an initiative to carry out essential repairs to the iconic Bath Abbey and introduce an innovative eco-friendly heating system using Bath’s famous hot springs.
Laura Brown, Footprint Appeal Director, said: “We’re thrilled with how many people came together to support the Great Bath Bake Sale and our first step in fundraising for the Footprint project. Bath Abbey is in desperate need of repair and renovation. For hundreds of years, people have been worshipping, visiting and using the Abbey, walking on the stone floor. All this puts a massive strain on the building - we’re bursting at the seams! The floor is slowly collapsing, space is severely restricted, and the building is struggling to cope with the huge numbers of people who use the Abbey every day. Our vision for Footprint is to maintain and make the most of what we have in order to continue inspiring all for hundreds, if not thousands, of years to come.”
