TGt Meets... Fussels Fine Foods

We've been speaking with Andy Fussel from Fussels Fine Foods since his win of Best Local Oils or Sauces at the Bath Good Food Awards this year.

Congratulations on your win! Tell us a little bit about your business?
I grow and produce a line of rapeseed oil products from my farm in Rode. Based around my signature cold-pressed extra virgin rapeseed oil, my range includes mayos and sauces to dressings and vinaigrettes. Fussels is stocked in a whole host of independents in and around Bath and I’ve just launched my new online shop at www.fusselsfinefoods.co.uk

What does winning this award mean for you and your company?
This award means a lot because it shows that our passion, vision and hard work over the last few years is being recognised by people who matter, local people. There is no doubt that the award will help us to spread the good news about the quality of our range to even more businesses and customers in the area.

How are you planning to celebrate your victory?
There may well be a few glasses of fizz to share amongst the team….

How did you get started in the food industry?
The Fussell family have been farming in Rode for generations but we were producing crops; including rapeseed, for wholesale markets. I wanted to connect directly with consumers and show them what a fantastic product my rapeseed oil is.

We invested in a cold press and set about transforming our rapeseed into a delicate, golden oil. That was ten years ago and since then we have gone from strength to strength, so much so that rapeseed oil is fast becoming a kitchen staple to rival imported olive oil.

Business is clearly booming, why do you think so many people visit Bath?
What’s not to like about Bath! Fantastic architecture, a rich history, amazing setting surrounded by beautiful countryside, so many events to enjoy throughout the year, great beer, cider, characterful pubs, restaurants and then there is the theatre and the shops, top class hotels… in short it’s everything  you could possibly need in a city.

Bath is foodie heaven…where else in Bath do you like to eat?
There are so many great places to eat in Bath, with a tantalising range of food styles to choose from, but the Acorn vegetarian restaurant is truly outstanding.
