Wine of the Month: Budureasca Feteasca Neagra 2015
Meet October's Wine of the Month: Budureasca Feteasca Neagra, Romania
As the evenings start growing a little cooler into the Autumn, I'm finding myself enjoying a few more cosy nights indoors. The idea of a spicy red wine with a rich lamb hot pot is becoming more and more attractive and I'm trading in the idea of a BBQ for a dinner party.
For me, this is the perfect month to start enjoying one of the best grape varieties Romania has to offer: the Feteasca Neagra. This ultra fruity, spicy variety - not to dissimilar from Shiraz - is perhaps a little too easy to drink at a big old 14.0% alcohol. Nevertheless, it's a velvet-smooth red wine brimming with black cherries, blueberries and ripe, squishy mulberries.
The grape variety Feteasca Neagra is known as the 'Black Maiden' due to its rich, inky colour. This particular style of the single variety red wine is made by Budureasca, one of Romania's most respected and awarded wineries. It's premium range, usually only £11.95 a bottle but this month less than a tenner, represents the superb quality and value for money you can find in Romanian wines.
Whether you choose to pair this spicy red with your lamb hot pot, a cheesy moussaka, or a quick delicious pizza, it will live up to all three occasions in style. You can't go wrong!
You can buy Budureasca Feteasca Neagra online here. RRP £11.95, Only £9.56 throughout October!
