Easter time and Easter Holidays only mean one thing – it’s time for some good ol’ family quality time. And while it’s always nice to treat you and your loved ones to something nice, keeping a budget friendly mindset it important. After all, being frugal doesn’t necessarily mean you need to be stingy – but it does indeed require some creativity.
Though the weather might not always show it, spring is right around the corner. And with half term and Easter holidays coming up, quality time with the kids is probably at the top of your list. So forget about your hobbies - even if it means missing out on that tempting online casino bonus you've had your eye on for the past few days - it's the kiddies' quality time now!
1. Have an Easter Egg Hunt
It's not Easter without the traditional egg hunt! Get together with some friends from the school, neighbors, or your local community and host an Easter egg hunt. It's not much work as long as the adults show up and help supervise. You can host it in your backyard, street, or local park.
2. Victoria Art Gallery
If you're looking to give your kids some culture over the half-term break, take a trip to the Victoria Art Gallery. Everyone can enjoy the art gallery with free entry to activities and exhibitions. Get the kid's creative juices flowing with the gallery's Easter holiday activity 'Faces and Flowers'. The youngsters are encouraged to play around with different textures and materials to design their own print to hang up at home.
3. Easter Arts and Craft
There are loads of creative and crafty ways to entertain the kids on a budget, especially with the Easter Bunny just a hop, skip and a jump away. So it's the perfect time to have an Easter arts and crafts day. The kids can decorate their baskets for the Easter egg hunt or collect some sticks and decorate the ornaments for an eggcellent Easter Tree. And, of course, the classics:
4. Bath City Far
Bath City Farm is free to enter and is a great day adventure for the kids to see some ponies, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc. The farm stretches over a 37-acre site and offers a varied programme of family activities. Let the kids roam while you enjoy the onsite cafes or explore the vegetable gardens and nature trails.
5. Repurpose Gardening
Get creative this Easter and do some upcycling/repurposed gardening! You can use your little one's outgrown wellie boots as a planter (or a pot). Just fill it up with compost and plant some herbs or flower seeds.
Using old objects from around the home like plastic bottles, a hat, or a sink, provides a creative and DIY skill set that encourages children to use materials they already have.
6. Easter at the American Museum & Gardens
Take the family out for an eggcellent Easter Adventure at the American Museum and Gardens. Chuck on your wellies and get the kids ready for the outdoor trail with loads of colourful and creative nest installations. Or, if it's a bit damp, the museum offers fun Easter-themed arts and crafts activities indoors.
7. Get the kids baking
Why not introduce your kids to baking yummy cupcakes or cooking delicious Easter glazed hams for activities at home? Learning to cook or bake can provide some pretty valuable skills for later life.
Whipping up something from grandma's cookbook or baking a cake from scratch keeps the kids busy with a sense of accomplishment too. This Easter, try out a kids-friendly Hot Cross Buns recipe.
8. Ten-pin bowling
Ready to have some fun this mid-term break? Well, time to get the ball rolling. Bowling is always a good time with the whole family, or with some friends. Even if you need to split and pick up some choccies from you-know-who, the kids won't even notice you've left (as long as they can take your turn). Keep an eye on additional indoor activities like laser tag or soft play areas at the venue.
Hot tip: Ask the venue if they have any school holiday discounts to spare.
9. Get on your bike
Time to dust the cobwebs off, check the brakes and pump up the tires- because bike riding is for everyone. Take the family on a trail out in nature (if you're up for a challenge), or unwind and explore your local area- maybe pop in to try some ice cream along the way?
10. Escape rooms
Do you and your family love riddles, solving puzzles or fancy a bit of competition? Escape rooms are perfect for you and the family to put your brains together or against each other. Escape4Fun in Bath offers customized games, flexible prices, and three different game levels for all ages to play at.
Have a hoppy Easter and enjoy some of our favorite budget-friendly activities with the kids this Easter or during the upcoming school holidays.
