A Season of New Performances at Bath?s Old Theatre Royal

This summer the Bath Fringe Festival will be taking over one of the city?s oldest performance venues.

During a fortnight of new and exciting theatre events the Old Theatre Royal on Orchard Street will be home to some of the city's best local talent.

The 17-day arts festival will feature live performances from both local, national and world musicians as well as dance, theatre, art exhibitions, carnival and children's events.

Built in 1750, the historic building was the first Theatre Royal outside London, entertaining the rich and famous visitors to Bath until 1805.

From June 4th – 9th there are seven different productions being shown, each one incorporating prostitutes, political murders, fools, steampunks and a great deal else.

Alongside the performances there will also be a free photography exhibition, ‘The Audience’ by Jemima Yong, and a bar serving food and festival spirit to members of the public. Daytime tours of the building run Tuesday – Thursday and Saturday June 8th.

Fringe directors Steve Henwood and Wendy Matthews said: “As Bath Fringe continues to grow we are thrilled to be working with the Old Theatre Royal this year to stretch out theatre programme further."

"With so many shows on offer there is something entertaining for all audiences, and we look forwarding to the people of Bath reveling in one of Bath’s most atmospheric venues.”

Malcolm Toogood, Treasurer of the Bath Masonic Lodge, said: “We are delighted to be working with Bath Fringe. The Old Theatre Royal has a unique history and it is part of our plan to continue to open our doors to the public to discover more about its past and find out about its future.”
