Bath Bachfest 2025
Bath Bachfest 2025 will take place from: 19th to 22nd February 2025. The annual Bath Bachfest, is a delightful fixture in the Georgian city’s annual calendar, celebrating the music of J S Bach and his contemporaries.
Happy music lovers, full houses and enthusiastic critics confirmed the success of this year’s festival, with another reviewer summing it up neatly: ‘once again artistic director Amelia Freedman managed to fill the three days of the fest with five wonderfully varying first class soloist and groups bringing the music of J S Bach and his contemporaries vividly alive.’
Hear Olivier Latry's performance, organist at Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral, has he plays a programme of Bach plus French works from Couperin and Marchand. Florilegium will be wlcomed back. Their concert is a family affair with the music of J S Bach, his son Carl Philipp Emanuel and their friend and godfather, Georg Telemann. They will be joined by mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston. A Shakespeare Miscellany, will be on Friday, with countertenor Robin Blaze, lutenist Elizabeth Kenny and actor Dickon Tyrrell with readings and musical settings.
Rachel Podger is an outstanding exponent of the Baroque violin, and with Brecon Baroque brings together a remarkable ensemble of the finest period-instrument players. Our full-length Saturday morning concert brings together Adrian Brendel, one of the most respected contemporary cellists, and Mahan Esfahani, probably today’s greatest advocate of the harpsichord.
Then to Bach’s great B Minor Mass which is central to the artistic mission of The English Concert, led here by Principal Guest Director Kristian Bezuidenhout.
