Bath in Fashion 2014: Vogue on.. Vivienne Westwood by Linda Watson
TGtB went along to hear the brilliant Linda Watson discuss the "constantly creative" career of Vivienne Westwood for Bath in Fashion 2014.
Linda Watson's talk on her fantastic book, Vogue on.. Vivienne Westwood, was the first in a series of fashion inspired talks and interviews over Bath in Fashion 2014.
The captivating talk took place in the gorgeous Dower House restaurant in the picturesque Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa. The stunning hotel proved to be the perfect backdrop for the iconic fashion figure of Vivienne Westwood.
Linda Watson is a highly respected Reader in Fashion at Northumbria University, and has even had the privilege of working with Vivienne herself.
We were taken on a journey through the life and career of Vivienne, from her early years of punk, to her famous Ghillie shoes and her only Vogue interview in 1987. Linda first met Vivienne at her graduation in 1987, she has met and worked with her at various times over her own impressive career - which makes her the perfect person to pen the Vivienne Westwood edition of the Vogue on.. series.
The talk focused on Vivienne's transformation from the small town punk rocker into the world renowned brand we know today, and how Vivienne has kept her identity and her ethos throughout the roller coaster of her exciting career.
We were fascinated to hear how such a huge fashion icon could be so grounded and abstemious - taking only a 'small purse and a tooth pick' out for drinks and having so little possessions she was able to move house in around 3 hours.
The talk was wonderful and we were kept thoroughly engaged on the compelling world that is the life of Vivienne Westwood. Linda presented the talk insightfully and personably, and left us musing on Vivienne's famous quote; "Buy less, choose well and make it last".
Linda Watson's book Vogue on.. Vivienne Westwood is available to buy from all good booksellers.
