Bath in Fashion Launches BIBA Film to Celebrate 50 years
This year?s fabulous Bath in Fashion 2014 marks the fiftieth anniversary of fashion brand BIBA with an exciting special guest Barbara Hulanicki creator of the now iconic brand. To celebrate, Bath in Fashion has commissioned Bubble Head Media to create a film capturing the famous BIBA story.
Barbara will be in conversation with the legendary Hilary Alexander, former fashion director of the Telegraph, and will host a one of a kind catwalk show of original vintage BIBA clothes on 8th May in the stunning Assembly Rooms. Students from the Bath Spa University’s Fashion Design course will also be showcasing work on the catwalk, created from gingham inspired by Barbara and the BIBA story.
On 4th May 1964, Felicity Green former Fashion Editor of the Daily Mirror commissioned Barbara to create a dress for mail order through BIBA’s Postal Boutique which was featured in the paper. The fabulous pink dress was so popular that 17,000 were sold; including a Bridget Bardot matching kerchief head scarf. Barbara and her husband Fitz had to conjure up 25 000 yard of sugar pink checked gingham. This enormous event changed the fortunes of BIBA and sent them on a new course to the height of fashion history. “We were going nowhere until the pink gingham dress” says Barbara, “something amazing happens and it then changes the course of your life”.
Barbara will be reunited with Felicity Green who is a special guest of Bath in Fashion 2014. “I absolutely love Bath, it’s a magical place” says Barbara who is a regular guest to see the creations of Bath Spa University Fashion Design Students at Graduate Fashion Week.
