Bath Racecourse Opens its Season with a Battle of the Bands
Bath Racecourse in conjunction with City of Bath College is hosting a Battle of the Bands competition to mark the opening day of the new racing season on Friday 17th April.
The bands fighting for glory will all be chosen from bands formed by students at the college, so the standard will be very high.
Performances will take place before racing starts and in between races. The acts will be judged by the audience as well as a select panel of judges, and the winning band will get to perform a 45 minute set at the BathFest this May.
Jo Hall of Bath Racecourse said “We are delighted to be hosting the Battle of the Bands. We are huge supporters of the College and of the local talent it nurtures. The event will also add that ‘something special’ for the many thousands of visitors anticipated for the opening day of the season and we are sure the event will be a great success.”
Kat Branch, Music Lecturer at City of Bath College added “We are very excited about showcasing local talent at the Bath Racecourse on the opening day of the season when thousands of people will not only be able to enjoy the considerable talent shown by students of City of Bath College, but will have the chance to possibly kickstart the next musical phenomenon.
“Our students are very excited about the competition and we had five bands apply immediately when we announced the competition.”
Gates open at 3pm, with racing starting at 4.35pm and finishing at 8.30pm. The full line up of bands and precise timetable will be announced in due course. The season opener race evening is also in support of WaterAid which is Wessex Waters’ main charity.
