Bath's Fashion Museum Receives A Touch of Glamour
We sent Bath City College student Nadia Sheikh down to the city's Fashion Museum to check out their latest exhibition, read on to find out what Nadia thought about 'Glamour' through the ages:
Bath's Fashion Museum is currently hosting the 'Glamour' exhibition. In this display they have dresses from up to 100 years old. I arrived there having a mindset of looking for the similarities and differences of the fashion from up to 100 years old and todays fashion. A lot of the fashion shown at the museum was very glamourous and gives a lot of attention to detail. The changes throughout the years from glamour fashion, this all started with quite a dramatic change. However, today's fashion is slowly heading back in time. At the beginning they gave you a device where if you point it to a bit of text on the wall it tells you about each dress through audio.
The differences between the 'Glamour' fashion in the museum and street fashion from today is that street fashion isn’t as detail and have as much hand made embroidery.
In part of the museum it showed 5 photographs in row, which was shot by ‘Elle’ the fashion magazine. This was very interesting because it showed a well known fashion magazine in a museum full of fashion years ago and its a way to compare and contrast the fashion change throughout time.
Barbara Badder and Elizabeth Cobbett really liked the Mid 1920’s silver sequinned dress “Its very beautiful and classy”. It is very good experience to have. “You can tell there has been a lot of effort put into this event” “The dresses are beautifully displayed”. The similarities and differences between glamour fashion and todays fashion have “no comparison” Barbara Badder said “ The only way you could afford to wear the glamorous dresses from the museum is if you were extremely rich, unless you made it yourself. Clara and Lola Straw said the similarities and differences between todays fashion and the fashion in museum is that “The fashion at the museum has more hand stitching and detailed fashion, however today's fashion is more basic with less detail”. Flo and Laura really enjoyed the experiences they shared at the museum “I think its a lovely opportunity to see, history. It is also lovely that you can try some of the dresses on”.
