BATH REVIEW: Komedia's Krater Comedy Club

KOMEDIA BATH is well-known throughout the city of Bath and beyond for its exceptional live comedy. But what is it like attending an evening at their Saturday night Krater Comedy Club? We popped along to find out, so take a read of our review below and let us tell you why you need to visit Komedia.

Having never been to a stand-up comedy show before, I was intrigued to find out whether a night at Komedia Bath’s, Krater Comedy Club, would provide the laugh-a-minute entertainment that many visitors and residents of Bath have told me it is.

Fortunately, it was more than that with my sides stitched from laughter, and a head full of witty one-liners to take home with me, Komedia Bath delivered on its promise of being the home of comedy in the wonderful city of Bath.

Unmissable with its bold KOMEDIA branding on the outside of the venue, myself and my partner arrived unknowing what we were in store for, but fully expecting a raucous atmosphere. After gaining entry, we ordered drinks from the quick-service bar and were shown to our table directly in front of the stage.

Popular with stag and hen do’s the magnificent auditorium adorned with a mixture of tables and benches quickly filled up, with a varied audience assembled consisting of couples, groups of friends, and party groups, it was time for our night of live stand-up comedy to get underway.

Three acts would be performing at Komedia on our evening of comedic entertainment with celebrated comedians Keith Farnan, Daisy Earl, and Marcel Lucont, each set to perform throughout the evening. But first we were introduced to our host for the night and celebrated comedian in his own right, London-born Tom Toal.

Despite being the host, Tom’s role wasn’t to simply introduce the acts, he was there to be our guide for the evening, connecting with the audience, helping to warm us up for what was to come, and most importantly making sure everyone was having a good time.

His approach to comedy was simple. Be simple, be funny, and don’t be over-the-top rude. And it was this approach that made Tom the perfect introduction to our evening. Sitting in the front row means you will get picked on and Tom immediately asked me questions in front of the audience. But this was all part of the fun and made you feel like you were part of the show.

Throughout the evening Tom was brilliant in executing his role as show host, and despite the odd heckler, Tom took everything in his stride and made sure the Krater Comedy Club was more than just a show, but a truly comedic experience.

So onto the three main acts…

Keith Farnam

Keith was by far the boldest of the three comedians and my favourite act of the night. His brash approach to comedy makes him a marmite type of comedian, you either love him or you don’t and it was immediate from the off that the whole crowd found him hilarious.

His ability to turn past experiences into belly-laughing stories was brilliant, whilst his interaction with the crowd made for an experience like no other as he dominated the stage and the auditorium. I

Keith wasn’t afraid to jump into subjects that many wouldn’t, but his approach to these made for a brilliant performance that has seen him establish himself as such a popular comic around the World.

Daisy Earl

Daisy was crowned Scottish Comedian of the Year in 2015 and it was easy to see why with her good-natured and alternative approach to comedy ensuring our night at Komedia was packed with laughter.

Often making references to her family, herself, and the everyday issues in life that many of us have to deal with, Daisy truly did connect with her audience and was brilliant at leading us into conversations that would always end in a brilliant punchline.

She never seemed flustered as she controlled the crowd and her strong personality made her performance an exceptional demonstration of stand-up comedy.

Marcel Lucont

The Frenchman who loves to make jokes about the British, Marcel Lucont is an incredibly smart comedian who uses his grasp of the English language to create hilarious, adult-only poems that leave the audience in stitches.

Marcel flirted with the crowd, luring us in with his gentle voice and exceptional wit before finishing with a one-liner that would leave you laughing throughout the entirety of his performance.

Rounding of our evening of comedy, Marcel was a brilliant live performer and was the perfect end to our evening with his fresh take on comedy making him one of the best comics currently performing on the comedy circuit.

Whether you are a die-hard comedy fan or have never been to a live stand-up comedy show like me, an evening at Komedia is what everyone needs to experience at least once. Their flawless execution of a night of comedic entertainment is more than worthy of the wonderful city that Komedia Bath is based in.

A night out that leaves your belly full with laughter and your mind filled with hilarious memories, you truly do have to experience this 5-star venue for yourself.
