Review: Krater Comedy Club & Motorcity at Komedia
Every Saturday Komedia Bath plays host to a series of stand-up comedians for their Krater Comedy Club, and we had the pleasure of being invited to check out this weekly event as well as their Motorcity club night afterwards! Here’s what we thought...
Having never been to a comedy show before my trip to Komedia was highly anticipated, some friends and I were looking forward to kicking off a fun evening out with some real good laughs! Conveniently located on Westgate Street the venue is no more than a few minutes’ walk from the train station and all the bars and restaurants in the centre of Bath, which allowed us to spend some time around Bath before hand without having to worry about getting there.
The comedy show started at 8.00pm, however the doors opened at 6.30pm meaning we could arrive earlier, get settled in and enjoy some food and drinks from the bar before the show. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the staff and shown to our table.
The compere for the night Steve Shanyaski kicked off the show, he had the audience in the palm of his hand and in hysterics after just a few minutes on stage. The interaction he had with the audience had everyone feeling involved and his energy really lifted the spirits in the room - it was a great insight into what was to come.
We were lucky enough to see the comedians Stephen Grant, Jake Lambert and lastly Jeff Innocent. Although having never heard of these comedians before, each of them had the audience in stitches throughout their performances. It just goes to show how much talent is out there and that you don’t need to splash out to see a huge comedian to have a fantastic time; one of our group had recently been to see Jimmy Carr and said she didn’t laugh as much as she did this night! All of their content was completely original and their ability to bounce off the audience and crack side splitting jokes on the spot was unparalleled.
The show lasted over two hours, but we were so entertained throughout it flew by. The entire audience left beaming and cheerful after all of the performances. While the comedy was over and our stomachs were aching from all the belly laughs, we still had Motorcity to look forward to – Bath’s busiest club night!
As we’d been to Krater Comedy Club, we had free entry and queue jump to the club night. As if we weren’t in the party mood already from the comedy, for the first hour Motorcity had unbeatable drinks deals such as Fosters, Gem and Thatchers at £3 a pint and any single house spirit and mixer for £3.50 or £4.50 for a double! The music was a refreshing but classic mix of all the best Motown, Soul, Funk and Rock ‘n’ Roll anthems which kept us dancing until the early hours!
Although we’ve been out in Bath a few times we’ve neglected to come to this club and now I can only question why. It will definitely be a regular for us from now on; you can’t find the type of music and extrememly reasonable drink prices anywhere else in the city.
The night finished and we all thoroughly enjoyed the time we had, we couldn’t fault a thing! If you’re looking to have a great night out without breaking the bank, we couldn’t recommend Komedia’s Krater Comedy Club and Motorcity enough!
Whether it’s a birthday party, hen or stag do, work party, date, or simply just because, we guarantee you’ll have a fun and memorable experience at Komedia.
