The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, Bath, Reveals Details of Jane Austen 250 Celebrations

Luxury hotel located on The Royal Crescent will offer Jane Austen overnight package, local tours, afternoon tea Regency dancing, and Regency murder mystery evening.

Bath’s leading luxury hotel, the five-star, two Michelin-Key, The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, has unveiled a number of celebrations to mark Jane Austen 250: the 250th anniversary of the renowned novelist’s birth. Austen has strong connections to the city of Bath, having lived in the city between 1801 and 1806, and used the city as the primary location for Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. While visitors to Bath have always been encouraged to enter Austen’s world through tours, exhibitions, and the Jane Austen Centre, 2025 will see a series of special celebrations across the city. With new experiences for both the local and visitor market, and enjoying a coveted location on Bath’s best-known street, The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is the perfect base from which to celebrate Jane Austen and soak up Regency life.

Overnight Stay: The Jane Austen Experience

The Jane Austen Experience package invites overnight guests to step back into Regency-era Bath during an experience filled one night stay. Upon check-in, guests will be greeted with a Jane Austen novel and custom notelets in their room, before embarking on a two-hour private walking tour with an expert guide from Fred Mawer Tours, one of Bath’s much loved Blue Badge guides. They’ll explore the very streets where Austen lived and set scenes in her novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, as well as some of the locations of TV and film adaptations of Austen’s work. Following the tour, guests can enjoy a Jane Austen themed afternoon tea in Montagu’s Mews, bringing the flavour of Regency England to life.

The package also includes unlimited use of The Spa & Bath House, and a full English breakfast. The overnight package will be available to book until the end of September, meaning guests can book during the most exciting time of the year for Austen lovers: The Jane Austen Festival in September.

The Jane Austen package costs from £660, and is available from 1st May to 30th September 2025.

An Afternoon Celebration: Tea & Regency Dancing

The hotel’s signature restaurant, Montagu’s Mews, is well-known for its deliciously decadent afternoon tea, and between April and October the menu will give a nod to Jane Austen. The menu incorporates classics such as smoked salmon, cream cheese and chive finger sandwiches, alongside local specialties such as the Bath bun. Diners can also opt for a vegetarian menu, or a full vegan menu, paired with a wide selection of Hoogly Teas, and the option to add a glass or flight of Tattinger Champagne.

For those looking to make the most of the Bank Holiday, on 5th May, the hotel will host an expert-led Regency dance class. Before sitting down for tea, guests will be invited to take to the floor to learn the simple country dance popular in Austen’s time, along with the etiquette of the period. After an hour of light-hearted steps and graceful movement, guests will be served the Jane Austen afternoon tea, to top off the perfect day celebrating the Regency period.

Jane Austen Afternoon Tea costs from £49 per adult and £24.50 per child, and is available between April & October.

Regency Dancing & Afternoon Tea will take place on 5th May, and will cost £55 including the class and afternoon tea.

An Evening of Drama: Regency Murder Mystery Dinner

On 24th April, The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa will invite guests to enter into their very own fictional world alongside some of Jane Austen’s most iconic characters at the Regency Murder Mystery Dinner. Taking place in the Sheridan Suite, guests are invited to dress in Regency attire and truly immerse themselves in their Georgian surroundings to uncover clues and help solve an unthinkable crime.

Written by actress and playwright Theresa Roche, the dinner will include characters such as Mr Darcy, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and Mr Elton. Arriving at 7pm, guests will enjoy a glass of fizz and canapés in The Library before making their way down to The Sheridan Suite for a delicious three-course dinner, shrouded in scandal and suspense.

Regency Murder Mystery Dinner will take place on 24th April, and costs from £120 per person.

Nightly rates at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa start from £410 on a B&B basis. For all press enquiries, please contact Lara Marwan Good on [email protected] or +44 796 434 770.
