Your Total Guide To family

Discover Bath: Best Things to do as a Family

There are few cities in the UK as attractive as Bath.

This historic city in Somerset is the perfect place to come for a family holiday as it has something for everyone and a friendly and welcoming feel. There is a huge amount to see and do throughout the city, so this post will look at a few of the highlights. There is also a lot to explore in the surrounding countryside, so it is a good idea to drive down in the car if possible.

Roman Baths

No trip to Bath is complete without a visit to the Roman Baths. This is what the city is named after with the ancient Romans building baths for wellness and re-laxation that can still be enjoyed together. This could be the perfect way to un-wind after a long day of exploring the city and it is also a chance to learn about the city’s rich history.

Thermae Bath Spa

You certainly want to visit the traditional Roman baths, but it is also worth check-ing out the modern Thermae Bath Spa. This modern facility is home to the only natural thermal hot spring that you can bathe in along with incredible views over the city from the open-air rooftop pool open both day and night. You can also en-joy spa treatments, a wellness suite, and a charming cafe with delicious food and drinks.

Bath Abbey

Bath has many architectural wonders to discover on a trip here but none as spec-tacular as Bath Abbey. The former Benedictine monastery is a breathtaking sight both inside and outside and can be somewhere to enjoy some peace and stillness in the city centre. You can pop in and explore by yourself, but a guided tour is highly recommended to learn the history of the Abbey - there are over 1,300 years to learn about!

The Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is another highlight to add to your list as an impressive hotel and spa set in beautiful gardens in the centre of the city. It is an iconic landmark of 30 Grade 1 listed terraced homes that form a crescent overlooking Royal Victo-ria Park and is considered one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in the UK. The hotel and spa is a fabulous place to stay and enjoy a sense of luxury or you can simply explore and chill out in the gardens.

Prior Park Landscape Garden

Prior Park Landscape Garden is a beautiful National Trust 18th-century landscape garden that has recently undergone major restoration to restore its histroric dams and is home to one of four Palladian bridges of this design in the entire world. You can also enjoy mesmerising views over Bath and the surrounding area.

There is a huge amount to see and do in Bath and these are a few of the main highlights that should be on your itinerary.
