REVIEW: Baloo's Softplay

For me, the defining factors of a ‘good’ soft play focus around cleanliness, food and drink, and my ability to supervise my children from a seated position. When I was invited to Baloo’s Soft Play in Trowbridge I was keen to see if it ticked those boxes.

Layout and equipment

Baloo’s has two floors with tabled seating on both. The soft play equipment allows kids to climb between the two levels and there is an area for smaller children and toddlers on the ground floor. There is a staircase in the middle of the room that allows children and adults to freely move between the two floors. I went with a 6 and a 10 year old who could largely be trusted to play nicely without me watching over them, so we sat in the quieter upstairs area where there is a large chalkboard wall and ball playing area as well. Both of my kids loved the equipment and said it offered lots of play options for them both. There was plenty of height and space for me to get in to the equipment too which was great, as we have all had to rescue a child from the depths of a soft play at some point.

Cleanliness

I visited Baloo’s a few years ago when my two youngest were very little when it first opened. I was impressed to see that 3 years later the place still felt fresh and well looked after. We arrived just before 10am and whilst the place filled up quickly whilst we were there, everywhere felt clean. When a drink was spilled on our table, a lovely team member was quick to help tidy up the mess without an issue. The whole place felt clean and safe and even though the noise levels were increasing rapidly, it never became unpleasant or too hectic despite our visit being in half term.

Food and Drink

I was happy to see a range of children’s and adult’s meals on the menu and the service was super friendly and helpful. I ordered a hot chocolate and a cake which were both really yummy. My daughter had a children’s lunch plate which included a sandwich, and a choice of two other items for £3.75 which I thought was excellent value. It was refreshing to see a food menu that didn’t break the bank whilst offering fresh, healthy and tasty options.

Thumbs up

I would definitely recommend Baloo’s. There is a real ‘family run’ vibe that was really welcoming. The town centre location means there is no onsite parking which seems to naturally control how long people stay for. Baloo’s gets our thumbs up as a great, clean place for kids to play and parents to enjoy an uninterrupted hot drink.
