4 Best Spa Holidays in Europe
Holidays are wonderful escapes from the real-life struggles and stresses that affect everyday life.
They are a chance to unwind, unplug, and recharge, while offering the opportunity of exploring a new city or country, taking in everything there is about the local customs, culture, land, food, art, and history. They’re also beneficial in learning more about yourself, like what you like and even what you want in life, while also giving you a chance to connect with your partner, family, or friends who join you.
Spa holidays are a whole other type of trip. They are becoming more and more popular, growing faster than other tourism industries, regardless if they’re booked by a group of women looking for a girls’ getaway, by a group of friends looking for the ultimate relaxation getaway, or by couples or newlyweds wanting to sit back, relax, and enjoy nothing but each other’s company—and maybe a few couple’s massages and some wine.
If you’re looking for the perfect spa getaway, you don’t have to go far. Places in Europe, and even as close as here in the United Kingdom, are some of the world’s best spa destinations.
Bath, United Kingdom
Britain’s only thermal, naturally warm, mineral bath is located in the city of Bath at the Thermae Bath Spa. Choose from a variety of spa treatments, book a tea for two, and enjoy the food and drinks while taking in the breath-taking views of the city from the rooftop pool. The city itself is rich with history as well, so once you’ve wound down, explore the ancient city and learn about the Roman roots and Medieval heritage.
Palma, Mallorca, Spain
Mallorca holidays are great for spending time on beaches, exploring the capital city of Palma and its nightlife, food, history, palaces, and cathedrals, but relaxing at one of the many spas in the city is unlike anything else. There are spas in luxury hotels, as well as independent urban spas, not to mention the views they offer of the mountains and ports are spectacular. Depending on what kind of treatments you’re looking for, you’ll be able to find a spa that offers your kind of relaxation to leave you feeling completely revitalised.
Leukerbad, Switzerland
The hot spring in Leukerbad has been around for more than 2,000 years, with water flowing down from the mountains that make up the stunning backdrop. The small town has approximately 30 thermal pools and boasts the largest thermal spa resort in the Alps. Whether you’re traveling just to enjoy one or some of the treatments offered from the extensive list, or are passing through from an adventurous trip or ski holiday this mountain spa will be sure to leave
you feeling completely refreshed and ready to take on the world. There’s plenty to do for everyone in the family as well, as the pools are complete with water slides.
Budapest, Hungary
Budapest has more than 100 thermal spring baths and is often referred to as the spa capital of Europe. The largest baths in the city are the Szechenyi Baths, comprised of three huge outdoor pools and 15 indoor ones, which are housed inside yellow and white buildings that are an architectural wonder in themselves. You’ll have to see it to believe how beautiful the decor is, with vaulted ceilings, mosaic tile art, and painted windows adorning the buildings. The spa treatments themselves are quite reasonably priced, so although it feels like a luxurious getaway, you are more than likely to be surprised at how affordable a day pass is, as well as the treatments offered.
