Yes…you heard us right. Bath does have its own currency called the Bath Oliver which was launched in 2011. You can change your own money to this which can be used as a discount voucher. Who knew?
2. Uranus was discovered in Bath
Famous astronomer William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus in his back garden of New King St, on 13th March 1781.
3. There are 7 crescents in Bath
Although Royal Crescent is the most famous by a country mile, Bath actually boasts SEVEN crescents! The seven are Royal Crescent, Lansdown Crescent, Camden Crescent, Widcombe Crescent, Somerset Place and The Circus!
4. Bath is home to lots of films
It will come as no surprise to most people that Bath is a popular filming spot for many films and series. Some of the most famous ones include Bridgerton, The Duchess, Vanity Fair, Les Miserables and most recently Willy Wonka!
5. Jane Austen once called Bath home
Did you know? Between 1801 and 1806, Jane Austen called Bath her home. Austen was so fond of Bath, that she even used it to help her write her novels. 'Persuasion' and 'Northanger Abbey' are both partially set in Bath, and her passion for the city truly shows through in these novels!
