Ask the Experts: Winter Beauty Trends
Q: ?What are this Winter's hair and beauty trends? I?ve updated my wardrobe but would like to have a different hair and make-up style?.
Tip No.1 - Bare Faced Beauty
- When it comes to this trend, less is more. Eat well, sleep well and get regular facials for super smooth and clear skin to show off your minimal make-up look. Invest in a good cleanser, toner and moisturiser. I use the Simple brand which is perfect for sensitive skin.
- Stick to creamy nude foundation or tinted moisturiser shades and add subtle sculpting to cheek-bones using blusher with bronze tones.
- Well-groomed brows are essential for pulling off a minimal make-up look. Keep yours in check with regular plucking but leave the shape as bold and natural-looking as possible. For a more statement look for the evening, use a brow pencil to add block colour.
- Use a moisturising lip gloss or lip balm to give lips a subtle shine.
Tip No.2 - Eyes
- Smokey eyes never stray far from the autumn/winter catwalks, and 2012/2013 is no exception.
- Use a block charcoal colour for a modern take on the trend.
- A touch of sparkle on the inner corners makes this look party-season perfect.
- For an ultra-sexy finish add just a hint of smoky shadow just above the crease of the upper lid.
- Eyeliner takes centre-stage this season with bold, graphic looks ruling the catwalk. Branch out from classic black to experiment with bright blues and clear whites for an avant-garde approach to the trend, or carefully craft liquid liner into perfectly-formed lines and shapes. And arm yourself with a good liner too, I love Soap and glory eyeliner which comes equipped with a built in sharpener.
- Look for cool pops of colour on the eyes especially sunset shades and gorgeous pearl-toned peacock colours for this season’s most beautiful look.
- A splash of bold colour on the eyes is just right for autumn/winter. Emerald green, peacock blue and ruby red were applied to models' eyes during the 2012-13 shows.
- Metallic eyes are also hot this season.
Tip No.3 - Hair
- Part it; update your style with a new season parting. This autumn wear it is neat, sleek and parted on the side.
- Hang low; ponies are always big beauty news but this time round they’re slung low at the nape of necks with volume at the crown.
- Straight; forget everything you thought you knew about straight hair – the new straight is not about poker fine and ironed to within an inch of itself, instead it’s glossy, shiny, sleek hair that oozes quality and health.
- Hairbands; pretty, girly and an opportunity to buy more accessories.
- Ballerina buns; simple, neat and pretty or alternatively plaited and twisted.
