Bath Businesses Invited to Get Competitive at Half Marathon

The Bath Half Marathon is inviting business to enter the event’s Corporate Challenge - a unique team building and fundraising opportunity for businesses and guests to compete at one of the most popular city centre road races in the UK, and the largest single day charity fundraising event in the South West.

The Corporate Challenge helps build teamwork across departments, healthy competition between businesses, and fitness within the workplace, whilst raising serious money for charity and good causes.

As Andrew Taylor, Race Director explains, “The Bath Half sells out each year and 500 places are specifically reserved for entrants representing business teams that are competing for the coveted men’s and women’s trophies.

“At the 2017 event just over 40 teams entered the Corporate Challenge, represented companies from diverse organisations and business sectors, including solicitors, architects, entertainment, engineering, telecoms, retail, construction, and many others. In total, these 2017 Corporate Challenge teams raised an admirable £97,000 for a wide variety of charities and good causes. Business teams are encouraged to fundraise for the Action Against Child Poverty Campaign or a charity of their own choice.

“The event is ideal for inter-branch or inter-departmental challenges and is a chance to see if head office really matches up against the local branch, Human Resources against IT department, or management versus staff, and of course businesses are positively encouraged to challenge their competitors.”

The Bath Half Marathon has become well established as one of the city’s biggest annual events. Now in its 36th year, the event attracts 15,000 runners and an estimated 30,000 spectators. The 2017 event raised a record sum of £2.25 million for charity.

Bath-based Buro Happold Engineers were the winning men’s team in the 2017 Corporate Challenge, with an impressive time of 7 hours 31 minutes, ahead of the Team Jackie charity and CIL Management Consultants from London. The women’s race was won by Bristol Biomedical Research Unit with a time of 8 hours 54 minutes, ahead of Royds Withy King Solicitors and the Team Jackie charity.

There is no limit to the number of entrants in each Corporate Challenge team (subject to the overall limit of 500 places), but a minimum of five runners are required to score in the team results and to qualify for the separate men’s and women’s trophies.

Interested businesses can pre-purchase their team places and register their runners at a later date. The Bath Half organisers are introducing a Corporate Challenge marquee in the heart of the Runners Village on race day for corporate challenge entrants.
