Bath Lives - Dave Bowler
One half of the brains behind 'Get Fit in Bath' Dave Bowler has been actively pursuing his fitness career since his early teens. A highly skilled personal trainer, Dave along with his business partner Natasha Lewis are making it their mission to get the people of Bath fit and healthy. We quizzed Dave about living and working in Bath and his business goals for the future.
Where is home and why?
Home is Bath, I love this city! Although I've been travelling all over the world and visited some of the globe's most beautiful places - nowhere seemed to compare to Bath.
What inspired you to set up your business in Bath?
Being local it seemed like the logical choice. I knew the area well and could easily set up in locations that I knew would work. I think that growing up in a city with such strong sporting links is what influenced and inspired me to get people fit and doing the things that I love.
What are your professional goals?
My aim is to set up the 'Get Fit' brand in different cities across the UK - I want people to benefit from quality personal training at an affordable price. Having seen the changes that training has had on my clients, I want as many people as possible to experience 'a healthier lifestyle'.
Did anyone try to discourage you from setting up your own business?
I don't think so, but to be honest even if they did, they wouldn't have been able to stop me, once I set my mind to something I'm determined to succeed.
What advice would you give anyone looking to do the same?
Persistence is key! I’ve also learnt never to ignore good advice. Although it' may not be relevant at time, it may come in handy later on.
What do you think attracts business people to Bath?
Bath has so much going on and seems to be constantly changing, it's a hive of activity. The diversity of businesses and people help to make it the fantastic city that it is.
If you could do it all again, would you do anything differently?
I think if I changed my path, I wouldn't be the person that I am today - so I wouldn't change a thing.
How do you like to spend your time off?
I love food! When I have time off I really like to try out different restaurants. Given my line of work - I'll never turn down the chance to enjoy a good workout too.
Your phone book must be full of business contacts, but who is the most famous person in there?
One of my clients is Birdy’s guitarist, he's definitely the coolest and most famous person in there.
What has been your biggest achievement to date?
Although a few spring to mind, I think that my proudest moment has to be starting up my own business.
