Break the Cycle Cyclists Raise Over £16,000 for Bath Rugby Foundation
Three of the West Countries rugby clubs Bath Rugby Foundation, Bristol Rugby Community Foundation and Gloucester Rugby joined forces on Sunday to undertake a 120 mile fundraising challenge.
117 cyclists supporting Bath Rugby Foundation took part in the ride from The Recreation Ground to raise funds for the Club charity. Setting off from The Rec on Sunday morning, the 120-mile course took the riders from Bath to Kingsholm stadium in Gloucester and down to Ashton Gate in Bristol before returning to Bath.
Riders supporting Bristol Community Foundation and Gloucester Community Dept. cycled the same circular route but started from their own home ground.
The combined 400 strong field included staff from all three clubs, as well as three-time Olympian cyclist Oli Beckingsale and Bath Rugby legends David Trick, Richard Webster, Gareth Adams & Mike Beese.
Bath Rugby Foundation Head of Fundraising Halena Coury said that the day was a great success,
"On behalf of Bath Rugby Foundation, I’d like to thank everyone involved in making ‘Break the Cycle’ so special, our sponsors and product suppliers, volunteers and, above all, our cyclists were amazing and their efforts are hugely appreciated by all 3 Foundation Departments involved."
“So far, the amount raised by Bath Rugby Foundation cyclists alone has raised in excess of £16,000 for the charity with sponsorship money still pouring in. We really can’t thank the riders enough for their fantastic efforts”
Halena added that she's already looking ahead to next year:
"The three Clubs are keen to continue to grow and improve the event– we are very excited about making next year even bigger and better!"
