CLIFTON DOWN SHOPPING CENTRE’S MANAGER TO CYCLE FROM LONDON TO PARIS IN AID OF THEIR NOMINATED CHARITY, THE JESSIE MAY TRUST
Last year, Clifton Down Shopping Centre nominated Bristol-based Jessie May, the children’s hospice at home charity, as their ‘Charity Partner for 2018/19’.
As part of their fundraising plan for the charity, Charlotte Jarrett, Centre Manager of the shopping centre, has taken up the challenge to cycle from London to Paris with Global Adventures. The 311 miles ride will be completed over four days. Charlotte has pledged to raise a minimum of £1,600 but, with some great support behind her, she knows even more can be raised for Jessie May.
Some great fundraising events have been planned over the next few months for the cause. On April 27th, the amazing team at Nuffield Health, North Bristol, hosted a Cycle Festival to support Charlotte’s fundraising for Jessie May. Four Spin classes ran throughout the morning, with all genres of music covered ‘festival style’.Charlotte was overwhelmed by the amount of support for her challenge. As well as Nuffield members taking part, so many of her friends turned up to take part in the early morning spin classes! An amazing £336 was raised in just four hours taking her total so far to £1,236.
On May 18th Clifton Down Shopping Centre will be hosting an exciting…but secret…event thanks to some of their great supporters. The only clue is music with a difference!
The Jessie May charity provides hospice at home care for terminally ill children in Bristol and the surrounding area. The charity was set up by the parents of Jessica May Purrington, a little girl who died at home aged 4 months, surrounded by her family and her nurses. The Jessie May charity now has a team of dedicated nurses who provide care to children and families during a child’s life and after their death.
Of the challenge ahead, Charlotte commented:
‘I worked with Jessie May a few years ago, funnily enough another bike challenge! At the time one of my colleagues was benefitting from the great care Jessie May Nurses provide - actually they still are. Seeing and hearing the great support this one family out of so many they care for receives, really spurs you on. 311 miles is actually nothing in comparison to what Jessie May families experience’.
Lindsey Horton, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Jessie May said:
‘It’s been a real pleasure working with the fantastic team at Clifton Down Shopping Centre over the past few months.
We’re amazed at Charlotte’s personal fundraising efforts – as she trains to cycle over 300 miles from capital to capital for Jessie May in September! We wish her all the best and look forward to hearing all about the cycling challenge in a few months’ time’.
