The proposed 'Venue 4' will be a dynamic and adaptable space designed to cater to a wide range of local community groups, theatre professionals, enthusiasts, and visitors alike.
This innovative project will transform the interior of the historic theatre by thoughtfully reorganising existing spaces.
Planning permission and listed building consent have already been submitted to Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The Theatre Royal Bath, a Grade II* listed building constructed in 1805, is already a cultural hub. The main auditorium seats around 900 guests, while two newer additions – The Egg, a children's theatre with 120 seats, and the Ustinov Studio with 125 seats – were introduced in 2005 and 2010, respectively.
Now, the theatre's vibrant roster of venues is set to expand with the addition of 'Venue 4', which will accommodate approximately 40 people.
The new space will be housed within the existing buildings along St John’s Place. Minor external changes are planned along St John’s Place to allow for easy access.
To ensure accessibility for all, the plans include an accessible dressing room complete with an en-suite bathroom and shower.
On the first floor, plans are in place to transform the former 1805 main dining room – now a vacant and unused space – into brand-new offices.
Although the official name of 'Venue 4' has yet to be decided, the hope is that this exciting new space will be ready to welcome the community by next year, pending approval of the plans.
