Hair Resolutions for 2016

We've been chatting to the experts at HairTrade.com to give you the 10 resolutions you should be following for beautiful, glossy, healthy hair...

Washing your hair every three days, not brushing your locks when wet, and rinsing in cool water are just some of the New Year’s hair-resolutions you should follow in 2016.

For most women, their relationship with their hair is often a strained one and most battle against its natural style with products and solutions that still don’t seem to work.

But many of these hairy situations can be avoided by abiding to some simple, back-to-basics tips to ensure your tresses will be looking lovely for the New Year.

At HairTrade.com, we've sourced you the top tips to ensure your locks are gorgeous with our ten New Year’s Hair resolutions that every woman should follow in 2015.

1. Try not to wash your hair everyday

Aim to wash your hair every three days if possible – shampooing your hair everyday can strip it of naturally occurring oils and will leave it limp, weak and difficult to work with.

If you find your hair needs a boost in between washes, trying spritzing it with dry shampoo for volume.

2. Don’t brush your hair when it’s wet

When your hair is wet, it’s at its weakest so brushing it when damp means strands are more likely to break.

Instead, take a wide-toothed comb into the shower and comb your locks when you have conditioner in.

3. Treat you hair to an intensive conditioning treatment once a week

Nourish your hair and it will thank you for it – intensive conditioning treatments only need to be done once a week for amazing results.

Some products will suggest leaving it on for three minutes but for a fully nourishing treatment, put on the conditioner, wrap your hair in cling-film and let it soak for half an hour.

4. Rinse your hair in cool-to-cold temperatures

The thought of a cold shower in January is not the most appealing but your hair can benefit hugely from it.

Hot water can result in overly porous hair and a frizzy mane so brave the cold rinse to seal moisture in your hair and increase shine.

5. Eat your way to healthy hair

Your diet and nutrient intake can hugely affect the appearance and condition of your hair.

Feed your hair foods high in naturally occurring protein – think chicken, oily fish, pulses and nuts.

6. Always use heat protection

If you use heat for styling then make sure to use protection – heat damage can dry out hair follicles and make it appear dull.

Invest in a good heat defence spray for soft, smooth style with body and healthy shine so you can feel confident that heated tools won’t frazzle your ends.

7. Book in for regular trims

To avoid split-end nightmares, try and keep up to date with booking a trip to the salon.

Fine hair should be cut every six weeks, whilst thick hair needs a trim every eight – try to stay on top of it.

8. Clean your hairbrush

Just like you clean your make up brushes, you should keep your tangle tamer squeaky clean as well.

Shampoo your hairbrush to remove dirt, oil, and any built-up hair products.

Also, try to keep your heat styling tools like straighteners clean too by wiping them down every week.

9. Protect your color

Keep your colour vibrant by investing in a colour-protecting shampoo and not drowning your hair in water, as it will drain it of the dye.

Try and look for products specific to your shade for ultimate colour-enhancing results.

10. Don’t try to fight your hair’s natural style

If you spend hours battling with your barnet, whether it’s over-styling or product-loading then stop.

Not only will this make your hair lacklustre but also over-styled looks are so 2014 – embrace your hair’s natural style and channel the “effortless” mantra.
