Help Bath's Homeless Dogs & Cats
City of Bath College student and animal lover Alice Farrant urges residents to donate to some furry friends in need.
For 76 years, Bath Cats and Dogs Home has rescued animals throughout Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire. With annual costs of £1.5 million, it's more than just a shelter for animals; it's a rehab, a sanctuary, and a most importantly a loving home.
For some animals, their stay is short, but for most Bath Cats and Dogs Home is a permanent residence.
There is currently space for over 300 animals, including dogs, cats and ferrets. The home does all that it can to help improve the lives of these animals who have been abandoned, abused or otherwise been in a negative situation.
The ways to be involved with the home are endless, whether you adopt, volunteer, donate or even help to raise money. The adoption process is simple and easy, with a lot of support and guidance from volunteers and staff.
There are so many different personality types throughout the home, so you're sure to find a furry friend that’s right for you!
Adopting is such a positive experience. So many animals and breeds come into the home in all different states. Billy, a Staffordshire bull terrier, was just one of many dogs brought to the home abused and mistreated. He had several injuries which were heart breaking to look at.
The home always strives to take care of the animals as much as possible. They were able to help Billy regain his health and become a happy, loving puppy who was able to be successfully rehomed in October last year.
The home never has a time-limit on how long animals can stay, each animal is taken care of until the perfect home and family can be found. The home has around 300 volunteers that help the staff to keep the home running. Each individual volunteer is important and has an essential role in caring for these animals. Volunteer work ranges from walking the dogs to cuddling the cats. Volunteering is just as rewarding for you as it is for the animals you care for.
A number of fundraising events and opportunities happen throughout the year that are easy to get involved in. This year, the home has produced a 2014 calendar with all the animals that are at the home, it’s available online and at the home. For every £1 donated, 83p is dedicated to caring for and rehoming the animals. The Bath Cats and Dogs Home relies solely on donations as well as fundraisers to help fund the costs of the home. Any donation of help is welcomed and received with sincerest gratitude.
Located next to Bath University, the home is open every day and welcomes visitors to come and explore. The atmosphere is always friendly and warm, and the animals are always excited to be visited and appreciated. Whether you’re looking for a new addition to the family, a cuddle or just something to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, the home is a great place for everybody.
