Planning a Perfect Road Trip Around the UK

Summer is now just around the corner and with it - fun-filled road trips with your partner, family, a group of mates or a solo adventure.

The UK is ideal for road trip adventures whether you are doing a round trip or exploring a new area. This post will give you a few ideas for planning the perfect UK road trip.

Who Will You Be Going With?

First, you should consider who you are going with. If you are going with your partner, you will want to have a romantic trip with the chance to spend quality time together. If road tripping with kids, you need to make sure that you have plenty of places to stop and ways to keep them entertained! The people that you are going with will determine what kind of road trip you will have, so you need to think about what their needs will be.

Route & Destination

When you have an idea of the kind of trip that you will be having, you can then think about where you want to go and for how long. Think about the places that you want to see on the road trip and then spend some time planning your route. Often, the best route is not on the motorway but instead the scenic route, so make sure that you consider what you will see and experience when actually in the car as this is a big part of the trip.

Accommodation

Leading on from this, you also need to think about accommodation and have something planned for each night. There are many options, including hotels, hostels, cabins and camping (just make sure that you are camping legally).

Car & Insurance

Keep in mind that you will be covering a lot of miles on a road trip, so you need to make sure that the vehicle is in good condition before setting off. You want to carry out basic maintenance tasks (getting it serviced beforehand is smart) to reduce the chance of encountering an issue in the middle of your trip. You also need to consider who will be driving and insurance - you can get car insurance for a week or a couple if you are sharing driving duties.

What to Pack

You also need to pack carefully so that you have everything you need without taking up all the space in the car. You will need to consider the length of your trip, the weather and what you will be doing. If camping, for example, then you may also need room for all your camping gear. You will also want to have plenty of snacks and water and an emergency kit if you have any problems on the trip.

A road trip can be great fun in the warmer months of the year, but you need to make sure that you are properly prepared beforehand.
