The event, held on Tuesday, September 3, was attended by patients, staff, supporters, and guests from the local community who gathered to celebrate the opening of the new facility.
During her visit, Queen Camilla was given a guided tour of the state-of-the-art centre, which consolidates a range of RUH’s cancer services under one roof. The new facility includes oncology, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward, a specialised pharmacy, and research teams in nuclear medicine and physics.
The Queen met with staff and patients in the Medlock Day Care Unit, a facility dedicated to providing specialised non-surgical cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and other therapies. She also visited the William Budd inpatient ward and spent time in a specially designed courtyard created to give the hospital’s most vulnerable patients a safe outdoor space.
The event was organised by RUH Chief Executive, Cara Charles-Barks, who welcomed the Queen and other attendees to the new facility.
