Hotel Stay at Hampton by Hilton
The Hampton by Hilton proved to be the perfect base for us. Situated in a brilliant central location, it allowed easy access to Bath’s main attractions. Our rooms were spacious, spotless, and featured extremely comfortable beds—ideal for a good night’s rest after a day of exploration. The hotel also boasted modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi, a fitness centre, and a cosy lounge area perfect for relaxing. Breakfast was a highlight, offering a wide selection of hot and cold foods, including a waffle maker that added a touch of fun to the mornings. Stephen on reception was a standout, providing helpful tips about local landmarks and ensuring the group felt warmly welcomed.
Lunch at The Saracens Head
For lunch we visited The Saracens Head, reputedly the oldest pub in Bath and a place with a fascinating history—Charles Dickens himself is said to have stayed there! The cheese toasties, made with real bread and served alongside a small salad, were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Exploring the Roman Baths
A trip to Bath wouldn’t be complete without visiting the iconic Roman Baths. This was a real highlight, with an impressive setup showcasing numerous artifacts and detailed information about the site’s history. It was a captivating glimpse into the past.
Dinner at Amarone Restaurant
For our evening meal, we chose Amarone; a unique independent Italian restaurant situated in the elegant Georgian building that was once home to Richard ‘Beau’ Nash, the renowned socialite. It was conveniently located just 100 yards from our Hotel. The restaurant’s elegant decor, attentive staff, and exquisite food and wine made for a very enjoyable evening.
Breakfast and Morning Stroll
The following morning started with another delightful breakfast at the hotel. We sampled everything from a hearty full English to fresh fruit and buttery croissants, all served in pleasant surroundings. Energised for the day, we set out for a leisurely walk to the Royal Crescent and The Circus, soaking in the city’s architectural splendour. We rounded off the morning with a coffee stop at Moloko, located directly opposite the Pump Room—a perfect spot to relax and reflect on their visit.
Journey Home
We enjoyed a smooth drive back to Sidmouth, unanimously agreeing that the weekend had been a lovely break away. From the friendly service to the memorable meals and stunning sights, Bath delivered a truly delightful experience.
If you’re considering a weekend escape, Bath offers everything you need for a charming and culturally rich getaway.
