Review: She's Still My Nan (Book)
We at Total Guide are delighted to have been given the opportunity to review the 2nd book in the Jess The Goth Fairy series.
She's Still My Nan
by Jess Hiles and Jo Allmond
Illustrated by Emily Daly
Jess Hiles and Jo Allmond have written a wonderful little book detailing Jess The Goth Fairy`s relationship with her Nan and how she copes with the revelation that her Nan is not quite the same person anymore as she is suffering from dementia. This is a heartwarming story and a marvellous insight for young children and adults into a situation where a loved one may have dementia or a disability.
The story revolves around Jess visiting her much loved Nan and with the help of her Mum and the lovely Doctor Paul gains an insight and understanding of her Nan`s condition. I particularly liked the moment in the book when Jess and her Nan danced together and for them time stood still. This really resonated with me as my own Mum suffered with dementia and I vividly remember dancing with her in her Care Home and the joy it brought to her.
This is another enchanting story from mother and daughter team Jess Hiles and Jo Allmond and again is beautifully illustrated by Emily Daly. Jess Hiles is an exceptional young woman with learning and physical disabilities but has achieved huge success in her life being a National Special Olympic gold and silver medallist and is a member of The People`s Parliament of Worcestershire For the Disabled. We would highly recommend this book as a lovely story with an enlightening message of understanding, hope, care and love.
