TGt Meets...Dan, Student Union President at Bath College

Our latest TGt Meets...Dan, Student Union President at Bath College. We asked him all about his role and what it's like to work in the beautiful city of Bath at Bath College.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I am a former Uniformed Public Services student from Bath College. In my spare time, I like to go out and meet friends, watch a game of Rugby and walk my dogs.

Tell us a little bit about what a Student Union President does/is?

I work closely with the Student Participation Manager and the Participation Team, acting as the figurehead of Bath College Students’ Union. The President is the link and voice of the students to the college. I oversee and coordinate the work of the Students Union liaising with the NUS and college whilst actively engaging students in learner voice activities and campaigns. I have to uphold and enforce the Students’ Union constitution, as well as support the election, training and coordination of the SU.

What tasks do you have to carry out as part of your role?

I promote Students’ Union activities across college, produce regular reports on all activities undertaken, contribute to the upkeep of all Students’ Union Social Media such as Facebook and Twitter, and assist in increasing departmental income. I also oversee the effective use of the Students’ Union budget with the Student Support and Engagement Manager.

What made you want to apply to become a Student Union President?

I was the Student Vice President for 2018-2019 academic year and I really enjoyed my position within the S.U. Then I decided to run for President as this job will give me a lot of experiences and builds up my CV.

Describe Bath College in 3 words…

The three words I would describe college as: Friendly, Enthusiastic and Diverse.

Someone who would like to be a Student Union President what advice would you give them to help them accomplish this?

The advice I will give to a student who wants to become President is to give a little bit of your own time to volunteer for college events this will help you build a rapport with staff and allow you to see how things are run. Also, I would suggest have a position within the Students’ Union team before becoming president, so this can give a brief idea on what happens within the team and how it supports other students.

Why did you choose to study at Bath College?

It was my first choice to study at Bath College as I knew what course I wanted to study as I am interested in joining a Public Service for a future profession.

What do you do at Bath College besides being the Student Union president?

I only do the Student Union President role as this is a full time paid job for previous students who studied at Bath College.
