Your Total Guide To lifestyle
The broadcaster and campaigner for women’s health will be at The Forum, Bath, on Saturday 17 September, just two days after the publication of her highly-anticipated book, Menopausing.
The former Big Brother host and presenter of TV series including Long Lost Family, Davina has become a powerful voice for a movement to get people talking about the menopause – once a taboo subject. Two major TV documentaries, Sex, Myths and the Menopause and Sex, Mind and the Menopause, presented by Davina have sparked a series of headline news stories and drawn attention to medical and social issues surrounding women’s health.
Davina’s campaigning prompted her to write a no-holds barred guide to the menopause, Menopausing. During the Bath event Davina will be busting some of the myths surrounding the issues surrounding peri-menopause, menopause and empowering women. The event will include a Q&A session, so there will be chance for the audience to put their own queries to Davina in person.
Davina has been candid and open about her own journey and will share stories from her own experiences.
Davina says of the way her campaigning has taken off: “I never saw myself becoming this woman. The woman with a megaphone in Parliament Square. But the misinformation and misconception around the menopause make me want to roar.”
The Bath Festival has a long history of bringing big issues and campaigners to festival audiences. The arts charity provides a platform which allows people to listen to experts in their field, to share ideas and be an agent for change.
About the book
Menopausing by Davina McCall will be published in hardback by HQ, Harper Collins, on September 15. For too long, women have had to keep quiet about the menopause – its onset, its symptoms, its treatments – and what it means for us. Menopausing will build an empowered, supportive community to break this terrible silence once and for all. By exploring and explaining the science, debunking damaging myths, and smashing the taboos around the perimenopause and menopause, this book will equip women to make the most informed decisions about their health… and their lives.
Menopausing will also celebrate the sharing of stories, enabling women to feel less alone and more understood, and talk openly and positively about menopause.
‘‘Menopausing is more than just a book, it’s a movement.’
