Your Total Guide To lifestyle

The Pump Room by Searcys reopens 10 August

We are delighted to welcome you back to The Pump Room from Monday 10 August. Enjoy our sumptuous interpretation of the ritual that began in the 1800s, when the 7th Duchess of Bedford found a way to fill the ‘hungry’ gap between lunch and supper.

A visit to Bath would not be complete without Afternoon Tea at The Pump Room, a Georgian treasure that inspired the likes of Jane Austin and Mary Shelley. Built in the 1790s with its Corinthian columns, glittering chandeliers and spa fountain, it soon became the destination for high society to meet and ‘take the waters’ from the hot springs. Today, over 200 years later, most of the neo-classical style features remain unchanged, creating the perfect ambience for special occasions.

Our world-famous classical trio is also back! Guests will be serenaded by the musicians from England’s oldest professional orchestra, as they enter the restaurant, setting the tone for a relaxing experience.

From 10.00 until 11.45, our morning menu will be serving famous Bath buns and cakes with tea or coffee (full price £7.75). Our afternoon tea menu is served from noon until 17.45, Monday to Sunday with savoury and sweet selections to enjoy (full price £28 per person).

The afternoon tea menu, created by Searcys' pastry team, using best quality seasonal ingredients and inspired by the beautiful region of Somerset, features Mini Pump Room prawn cocktail, Local ale and Cheddar rarebit, onion chutney, Smoked salmon and cucumber pikelet, Mini Yorkshire and rare beef. Cakes include fruit and plain buttermilk scones with Dorset clotted cream and jam, freshly made on the day and a daily selection of The Pump Room pastries (chocolate opera cake, fruit tarts, cream choux bun). Gluten-free, Vegetarian and Vegan options are also available.

This summer, the menu is kindly supported and accompanied by a glass of English ‘grand marque’ Nyetimber Classic Cuvee MV sparkling wine (£12.75 per 125ml glass, £15.25 per 150ml glass, £75 per bottle).
