The TPDAL Schools Design Competition

ThermoPlastic Designs and Lines, the playground marking specialists in Southend on Sea, have just launched their Schools Design Competition, focused on encouraging schools around the UK, along with their pupils, to get creative and design their very own unique playground.

The UK’s only playground design competition of its kind is back by popular demand due to last year’s high participation numbers and great success. You can click here to learn more about this innovative business and the competition. Last year’s competition winner was six-year-old Athena from St Mary’s Prittlewell C of E Primary School located in Essex. A few months after her triumph, the design team at TPDAL made Athena’s playground design a reality.

After all, isn’t it every child’s dream to be able to play in a playground that they themselves designed?

Why enter?

There are so many reasons why learners and schools alike would want to take part in this exciting competition. The school has the opportunity to win a free unique playground game designed by one of their pupils to the value of £5,000. The winning school will also be promoted in the local press and other publications. Last year, the competition winner was included in publications such as:

  • Echo News
  • Basildon Standard
  • Braintree & Witham Times
  • Thurrock Gazette

While it is obviously an incredible delight to walk away with the win, the real joy lies in the participation. The great news is that even if your school doesn’t win, you will still receive a 10% discount to use at TPDAL, just for participating.

Having said all that, undoubtedly, the main incentive for entering the competition is the fact that it encourages pupils to engage and get those creative juices flowing!

The rules

Before entering, it is crucial for schools to be aware of the following rules and guidelines:

  • Only primary school children aged 5 to 11 years old may enter.
  • Be sure to make a copy of your entry before submitting.
  • Only one entry per child is allowed, and each school may only submit up to three separate entries.
  • By submitting your entry to the competition, you give copyright ownership to TPDAL who can use your design and concept in future playground markings.
  • By submitting to the competition, you give permission for TPDAL to use your pupil’s name, age, and school for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of the entry.
  • The winner will be selected by TPDAL at their discretion within 4 weeks of the announced deadline date.
  • Sending in an entry to the competition means that you accept these terms and conditions, which are the rules of the competition. Always check with the child’s parent or guardian that they are happy for you to enter the competition based on these terms and conditions.

How to enter

Entering the competition is very easy – simply send your pupils’ designs via email to [email protected] with the subject line “TPDAL Playground Competition: name of Your School”. Remember, you must provide the pupil’s name, age and school when submitting each entry. Rest assured that this information will only be used in relation to the competition.
