Yoga Workshops at Combe Grove

Sundays at Combe Grove are special. With far-reaching views over the Limpley Stoke valley, an array of dining options to suit all appetites and a beautiful bar and drawing room to lounge in, it’s the perfect backdrop for weekend relaxation.

From this March, there’s a new way to enjoy Sundays at Combe Grove, with a series of invigorating yoga workshops taking place monthly. Suitable for all levels & abilities, these two hour long workshops are perfect for those looking to reset the clock for the week ahead, with deeper attention to their yoga practice. These classes will be more intimate than a regular class, taking place in a candlelit studio with a woodland view.
Participants are invited to make a day of their visit, with full use of the Combe Grove fitness & leisure facilities, including indoor pool, steam room, sauna and fully equipped gym, included in the price. Mats and chilled water are provided, so once you’ve booked the workshop, all you need to do is turn up!
The full schedule of workshops is below.

Sunday 26th March 2017: activate, awaken & rebalance for spring, with Annie Hernon
Reawaken your senses and get set for spring with an energising yoga workshop with Annie Hernon. In this workshop, Annie will share her knowledge and experience of the ancient practice of rebalancing chakras, or energy centres throughout the body, to help shake off the physical and emotional stresses and strains of winter.

When the chakras are balanced, energy flows freely throughout the body, and it creates a sense of inner peace and wellbeing. Annie will help the group achieve this through energy raising breath work, a series of warming and dynamic yoga postures and sound healing. The perfect refresher to welcome in spring!

Sunday 30th April 2017, introduction to Yin Yoga with Vanessa Koenig
Join Vanessa to explore Yin Yoga: a practice which allows you to experience a deep relaxation that is grounding and energising, and has ties with the effects associated with mindfulness.

In Yin Yoga you hold poses for longer, from between two to five minutes, stretching the deeper tissue of your body, such as muscle facias, tendons, and ligaments. This stimulation makes these tissues healthier and more flexible, enhancing the body’s own healing abilities. The effect is often compared to being like giving yourself a deep tissue massage.

This intense attention to your body is combined with techniques that allow you to turn down the volume on everyday stresses to restore a greater sense of being in the moment.

Sunday 21st May 2017: ‘let the unneeded go’ power & kriya yoga, with Mirella Lamarina
In this workshop Mirellla will guide the group through a practice that will help shake off any unneeded and unwanted negative thoughts and feelings, to leave you feeling lighter and restored.

She will use a combination of Power & Kriya Yoga – an ancient technique that aims to balance the body’s energy & realign it with the energy of the universe. In Kriya Yoga, poses are held for longer and you focus on the feeling that your breath is creating in the body, listening to the inner you, and shedding any feelings & thoughts that are no longer serving you.

Sunday 18th June 2017: stretching the west and extending the east, with Angela Roberts
Join teacher Angela Roberts for a workshop focussing on breath-centred forward bending and improving backbends. Angela will lead the group to deeply explore a variety of breath-based movements, uncovering tension patterns for a more meditative experience.

Yoga was traditionally practised facing the rising sun. The forward bending postures stretch the west side (i.e. back) of the body as we bend forwards. Likewise, as we bend backwards we open the east facing front of the body.

This dynamic and engaging workshop will create more understanding of some key yoga poses, via pair work, use of props, exploration of anatomy & subtle yoga energetics.
Members can book for £25 per session, non-members £35. To book please contact reception at Combe Grove Club in person or on 01225 838680/ [email protected]
