Way ready for Eastbourne test after important midweek win
Boss Darren Way insisted his Bath City side needed to “do something a little bit different” when they host high-flying Eastbourne Borough in National South on Saturday (3pm).
The Romans sealed an important 2-1 victory over Salisbury on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Luke Russe and Brad Ash. The win kept them eight points above the bottom four in the division.
But Way is eager for his team to build momentum when second-place Eastbourne visit Twerton Park.
He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I think we’d rather play a team at the top at home. We need to turn up and try to do something a little bit different.
“Teams have sat behind the ball, so hopefully Eastbourne will play a little bit more of an open game which will allow us to be able to counter-attack them.
“I think that’s worked really well when teams have done that against us.”
Reflecting further on his team’s midweek win, Way added: “I think it was probably the most pressurised game we’ve had as a group. Playing against a team that’s below us, we knew we had to get a result to keep that gap in the table.
“The players’ performance levels in the first half were absolutely fantastic and we should have been 4-0 up.”
Bath have picked up 40 points from 34 games so far this season, leaving them 18th in the table.
