ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Bath Rugby 22-6 Bristol Rugby
Bath Rugby had the boot of Rhys Priestland to thank as they beat Bristol 22-6 in the first West Country derby played in almost seven years.
The victory means Bath have two wins from two in the European Challenge Cup this year, following a 22-25 overcoming of Pau on Saturday.
Priestland was the ruler of the Rec on Thursday night as he scored almost every single Bath point, but Matt Banahan stole his thunder a tad as he became the Blue, Black and White's all-time leading Try scorer in the European Challenge Cup with his last-minute score.
Priestland kicked the hosts into a 3-0 lead with seven minutes player with and 10 minutes later the lead was extended to six with a second Priestland penalty.
Billy Searle got Bristol back in the game with a penalty of his own in the 27th minutes, but a second batch of penalties from Priestland made it 9-3 and 12-3 in the final five minutes of the first half.
Shane Geraghty kicked over a penalty of his own to get Bristol within a converted try of taking the lead, however just five minutes later Priestland kicked through the posts yet again for 15-6.
Banahan then seized on poor Bristol defending to run through and score and Priestland's conversion sealed the derby day bragging rights.
