Bath Council asks residents for new recycling centre suggestions
Bath and North East Somerset Council want the residents of Bath to get involved and suggest new potential sites for recycling centres in the city as the council look to replace the Midland road site.
Having been deemed unfit for purpose, the current recycling centre is to be redeveloped with nearly 180 homes taking over the area. Many of the centre's functions will be moving to the existing Pixash Lane centre in Keynsham.
The council has moved swiftly to assure Bath residents that they wouldn’t be left without at least one waste and recycling centre to make their local tip trips to and are now asking for suggestions on where new facilities should be built.
The council have already enquired about a potential location in Odd Down, however, they are also considering other locations as the city attempts to cut vehicle use and reduce its carbon footprint.
Cabinet member for climate emergency and neighbourhood services, Councillor Dave Wood, said:
“Ensuring modern, easily-accessible waste and recycling centres for residents is important for tackling the climate emergency.
“Our intention is that Bath residents will have a number of household waste and recycling centres they can use in the city to make recycling as easy as possible.
“I also want to increase the range of things we can recycle.
“I am concerned that previous proposals, for example for just one site at Odd Down, don’t reflect the need to reduce car travel to tackle the climate emergency.
“We want to see modern, user-friendly centres that make recycling easier, complementing the regular kerbside collections received by residents and providing additional new services such as re-use and repair.”
Suggestions for the new site will close on January 1st and the options will then be reported to the cabinet for decision later in 2021.
