Do you know your Hatiquette?

To help guests celebrate Ladies Day in glamorous style, Bath Racecourse has produced an all-encompassing guide to hat etiquette to ensure a stylish day for all.

The aptly named guide ‘Hatiquette’ comes in a handy handbag size and includes tips on how to pick the right style of hat for you. The guide takes into account your style, face and body shape and has been created in partnership with well-known couture milner, Lisa Von Hallwyl. To make the guide even more helpful, they have included a ‘do’s and don’ts’ of wearing a hat to ensure any fashion faux pas are avoided and a section dedicated to Race Day terminology.

Jo Hall, Executive Director at Bath Racecourse says “Next to the racing the fashion and the hats really do take centre stage on Ladies Day. We get asked all sorts of questions about the dress code and etiquette because very often this is the only day of the year that some ladies come racing, and it’s also a really popular event for those new to racing.  The ‘Hatiquette’ is a great way to help get people prepared and in the mood for the day as well as being a bit of fun.”

As well as the guide the Racecourse is staging a mini Hat Roadshow which takes place in Bath at the bottom of Old Bond Street on Thursday 31st July between 11 – 2pm and at Clarks Village on Thursday 7th August between 3 – 5pm. Ladies will be able to come along and try on a range of different hats - and have a free consultation with milliner Lisa Von Hallwyl herself. This is a great chance to get expert advice about what styles and shapes best suit you. Free ‘Hatiquette’ guides will be available at the event and the team will be collecting donations in aid of this year’s Ladies Day charity - Breast Cancer Care.

Bath Racecourse Ladies Day takes place on Saturday 30th August and is sponsored by Clarks Village. Entry tickets are £23 and gates open at 2.30pm. Prizes will be given for Best Dressed, Best Shoes and of course the Best Hat on the day. Visitors will also enjoy live music and a fireworks display to finish off a day of indulgence, fun and glamour.
