Website 01225 469061Both ends of Lawrence Street have been decorated with an archway of wicker baskets featuring a kaleidoscope of floral colours, from beautiful blues, pretty pinks and joyful yellows. Several store fronts have also been decorated with floral garlands and summer features.
The baskets, which are synonymous with British summertime, have been filled with seasonal plants and faux foliage to create an eye-catching yet sustainable display, with the centre planning to reuse the faux flowers in years to come.
This year’s floral theme has been inspired by the 60th anniversary of Britain in Bloom, with the centre set to be part of the wider judging for this year’s national and South West competitions later this summer. And with Bath winning the first competition in 1964 and securing 15 awards and 25 finalists since then, it’s set to be an exciting summer for the centre.
SouthGate Bath has also partnered with St John’s Foundation on a summer selfie point offering visitors the chance to snap a selfie and make a contactless donation to support the charity’s vital work. St John’s Foundation is one of the oldest charities operating within the UK and aims to alleviate poverty and chronic living conditions in Bath by offering shelter to those in need.
Guy Henderson, centre director at SouthGate Bath, said: “It may be bias, but the centre’s floral display is looking fantastic, and the colourful flowers really give us hope that we have some summer weather on the horizon. Our displays are always well received by visitors – so fingers crossed this year is no different!
“We’re proud to be supporting St John’s Foundation as our charity partner for the summer, raising vital funds and awareness for the amazing work that they do – whilst helping our visitors capture the perfect selfie to mark their time with us.”
The display will be in place throughout the summer until early September and visitors are encouraged to take photos and share them with @SouthGateBath on Facebook and @southgate_bath on Instagram, using the hashtag #SummerAtSouthGate.
